CEIBAL AGUATECA PUNTA DE CHIMINO DOS PILAS
RIVER TRIP 4 days - 3 nights
Leaving Flores after an early breakfast, travel by minivan 1 1/2 hours to the
frontier town of Sayaxche on the banks of Rio La Pasion. Board a motorized boat
at Sayaxche for the hour-and-a-half trip to the ruins of "EL CEIBAL." Spend the
morning exploring this fascinating site, which bears the last hieroglyphic date of
the classic Maya.
After a box lunch at Sayaxche, travel by river boat to thethe ancient fortress city
of Aguateca, constructed between two great cliffs more than 180 meters high.
Explore this unique site for 2-3 hours. Return by way of Punta de Chimino, a
Mayan City built on a natural peninsula with moats for defense. featuring in
National Geographic, Feb 1991. Box lunch will be served, return to lodge dinner.
After breakfast traveling by boat to "Paso de caballos" to meet with local helpers
using horses or walking 13 km to "DOS PILAS" tour on the site, view some or the
finest steleas to be seen in Petén, camp out or return to the lodge depending on
time and conditions. Next day after breakfast return to Flores area.
