Flores
Rising out of Lake Peten Itza is the town of Flores, which rests on the small island of
the same name. In earlier times the island was part of the kingdom of Tayasal, the last
stronghold of the Itza.
Today you may wonder the streets of the town and find colorful houses with pretty
doors and windows. You can visit the many shops, restaurants, and internet cafes, visit
its famous church with the "Black Jesus", and explore its fascinating and informative
museum. At the highest point of the island there is a Central Park with beautiful,
